As the video shows, Murray delivered an illegal check to the head on Kostka, rising up to cause a forceful blow and a serious injury. While there is believed to have been no intent to injure, and despite Murray's clean record, the NHL decided the action warranted supplemental discipline based on the above factors.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Murray will forfeit $23,076.93. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
