IOC to pay John Tavares' salary while he's out of the Islanders lineup

Though the New York Islanders will be without the services of captain John Tavares (knee) for the rest of the season, at least they won't have to foot the bill.

According to TVA's Renaud Lavoie and Newsday, the International Olympic Committee will cover Tavares' salary while he rehabs from a knee injury sustained during Olympic competition last week. Tavares' salary will be covered by the 'contract insurance' that was purchased by the IOC and the IIHF as part of their agreement with the NHL and NHLPA that allowed NHL players to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Update: While the IOC will cover Tavares' salary, they'll do so after the Islanders have covered a 10 game deductible.
