Vladimir Ruzicka set to become head coach of the Czech Republic men's hockey team

In light of Alois Hadamczik's resignation as head coach of the Czech Republic's men's hockey team, former NHLer and Olympic gold medalist Vladimir Ruzicka has been tabbed to assume the post, according to Ilatlehti.fi.

Ruzicka, who registered 167 points in 233 NHL games for the Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, has been serving as head coach of Slavia Praha in the Czech league (where his finished his pro career in 2000), as well as the country's Under-20 team.

The announcement is expected to be made official once he's excused from his contract with Praha.

Ruzicka was a member of the World Championship winning team in 1985, and won Olympic gold in Nagano back in 1998. On top of that, he earned an Olympic silver medal in 1984, and two silvers at the World Championships (1982 and 1983).

The Czechs were knocked out of the 2014 Olympics by the U.S. in the quarter-finals amidst a bevy of questionable lineup decisions.
