Steve Yzerman to step aside as Team Canada's executive director

Steve Yzerman, the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and the architect of the Canadian machine that swept through the 2014 men's Olympic hockey tournament, is done with being the executive director of the Canadian national team.

Yzerman will not reprise the role he's held down through two gold medal wins (in 2010 and 2014) should NHLers return to the Olympics in 2018.

From ESPN and TSN reporter Pierre LeBrun:

Yzerman reportedly added that it was time to give another hockey executive a shot.

The Hall of Famer has won two gold medals in two attempts as Team Canada's principal executive, including a massive gold medal victory on home soil in Vancouver in 2010.
