USA G Quick will start Wednesday in quarterfinals
United States goaltender Jonathan Quick will start in the quarterfinal game on Wednesday against the winner of Czech Republic and Slovakia, USA Hockey announced on Tuesday.
The move doesn't come as much of a surprise after Quick, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012, started America's first two games against Slovakia and Russia.
Ryan Miller led Team USA to a silver medal at the 2010 Olympics and is having a better season than Quick. But he has played only one preliminary game against Slovenia, so the writing was on the wall.
Both netminders have been stellar for the United States in the tournament thus far and have posted an identical save-percentage, with Quick being narrowly better at stopping difficult shots:
Goaltenders | Record | Goals Against Average | Sv% | Difficult shot Sv% |
---|---|---|---|---|
Jonathan Quick | 2-0-0 | 1.44 | 0.944% | 0.85% |
Ryan Miller | 1-0-0 | 1 | 0.944% | 0.8% |
Czech Republic and Slovakia will meet in a qualification game at noon Eastern time on Tuesday.
