Report: Penguins D Kris Letang out indefinitely with mysterious illness

Kris Letang was a late scratch on January 30th, and rumors surfaced this week that an undisclosed illness could keep the 2013 Norris candidate out of the Penguins lineup long-term. But the news coming out of Pittsburgh about Letang's status is beginning to sound significantly more grim.

TribLive beat writer Rob Rossi reported on Thursday that Letang's illness wasn't believed to be serious:

By late Thursday night Rossi's report had been amended pretty dramatically:

Citing multiple unnamed sources Rossi writes that, "There were concerns last week that Letang's season — if not his career — could be in jeopardy because of the illness."

The Penguins had planned to update Letang's status further on Friday, but appear to have changed gears. "There will be no update on Kris Letang until we have further update on his condition,” Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Thursday.
