Report: Vanek rejects 'substantial' offer from Islanders, expected to be traded

Thomas Vanek appears to have made a decision about his future with the New York Islanders, and is likely to suit up for another time prior to the NHL's trade deadline, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.

Staple further reports the Islanders' offer is believed to be in the same range as Vanek's current seven-year, $50 million deal.

Steve Bartlett, Vanek's agent, also told Newsday that the forward has not completely closed the door on the Islanders, but understands the team may look to move him in the midst of uncertainty about his future on Long Island.

The Islanders currently sit ten points out of the wild card race in the Eastern Conference, and will likely be looking to recoup a first-round pick in light of the one they sent to Buffalo in the trade for Vanek involving Matt Moulson earlier in the season.
