No Plan B: Hockey Canada has no Sochi contingency plan if NHL pulls players

VANCOUVER - Bob Nicholson says there's no Plan B if the NHL decides to pull its players out of the Sochi Olympics.

The Hockey Canada president made the comments Wednesday after announcing the 2014 recipients of the Order of Hockey in Canada.

NHL deputy commission Bill Daly said in an email to The Associated Press this week that the league would re-evaluate sending its players to Sochi "if something significant were to transpire" before Feb. 9, the date players are scheduled to leave for Russia.

Daly added in the email that he didn't "expect that that will become necessary."

Nicholson says there has been no contact with Canadian amateur or European-based players if the NHL decided against going to Sochi.

The threat of terrorism has been top of mind recently after two suicide bombers struck the city of Volgograd in late December, killing 34 people. The group that claimed responsibility for those attacks has also threatened to strike the Games.
