Report: Habs wanted McGinn, not Parenteau, in exchange for Bourque

TVA Reporter Louis Jean doubled down on his report that the Montreal Canadiens refused to send Rene Bourque in exchange for P.A. Parenteau.

Jean tweeted out (en français) that the Habs were looking for the younger, grittier, Jamie McGinn.

Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens have a healthy stock of six-foot, 200-pound wing prospects (Lars Ellar, Alex Galchenyuk, Ryan White and Brandon Prust; as well as Justin Courtnall and Mike Blunden in the farm in Hamilton), but were still looking to the 25-year-old McGinn over the 30-year-old Parenteau.

The salary may have made the difference in this failed deal -- Bourque's $3.3-million is closer to Parenteau's $4-million than McGinn's $1.75-million.
