Highlights from the Kings vs. Ducks outdoor game at Dodger Stadium
On Saturday night the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks played an outdoor hockey game at Dodger Stadium in Southern California. How does ice outdoors in Southern California work, exactly? Well it helped that it wasn't a particularly balmy night in the L.A. area, as TSN's Gord Miller points out:
Temperature at faceoff for the outdoor game in LA is 62F (17C). That's a similar temperature to what you'll find in most NHL arenas.

The puck was bouncing around a bit, but not as much as one would expect until late in the game. And the trade off of playing a game in the environs of Southern California made some relatively poor ice well worth it:

Living legend Vin Scully joined Kings play-by-play broadcaster Bob Miller to welcome the fans to the stadium:
The Gretzky clan was there:

And "The Great One" even dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff prior to the game:

The Ducks Stadium Series uniforms were extremely orange, but no one was orange-r than goaltender Jonas Hiller:

It was a quintessentially Californian event. As KISS played (and they played often), a group of young ladies were on the field doing yoga. That really happened:

Meanwhile Jeremy Roenick was mobbed by Lilliputians:

Ultimately a good time was had by all, well until the beer ran out mid-way through the second period:

Still it was one hell of an event, and the Ducks emerged the victors with a 3-0 victory over their crosstown rivals. They celebrated to a fireworks show:
