Canucks GM Mike Gillis on the John Tortorella suspension: 'It was a fair result'

Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis discussed the suspension of his club's head coach John Tortorella for 15 days at length on Tuesday.

"I thought it was really fair, extremely professional," Gillis said of the league's disciplinary process. "We thought it was a fair result."

"He's extremely disappointed in what happened," Gillis said of how Tortorella is taking the lengthy punishment. "He's extremely disappointed about not being with the team. But he realizes that you can't do those things and we all realize that. In the heat of the moment, in the adrenaline and the emotion, he did something that can't be tolerated in the National Hockey League."

Continued the Canucks executive: "John didn't want to be known as a soundbite on sports radio shows or sports highlight shows and now he is again. He was extremely disappointed in his own behavior, and he was upset but there were upsetting circumstances surrounding it as well."
