Jets fire head coach Claude Noel: GM admits he didn't do enough to help bench boss

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, who fired head coach Claude Noel on Sunday, admitted to reporters shortly thereafter that he probably could've done more to help his bench boss produce a winning club.

The executive also noted that he doesn't have a ton of history with Paul Maurice, who was tabbed as Noel's replacement almost immediately after the team relieved Noel and assistant coach Perry Pearn of their duties.  Cheveldayoff also emphasized that Maurice is, for the moment, a temporary solution behind the bench.

Noel, meanwhile, who was unable to lead the Jets to a playoff berth in his two full seasons at the helm, will not remain with the organization in any capacity, according to Jim Toth.
