GIF: Bobby Ryan's head gets checked into stanchion as tough week continues

Ottawa Senators winger Bobby Ryan has not had a good week. He was left off the USA Olympic men's ice hockey team, called out by executives for his lack of intensity, and the general manager who drafted him spoke on the record about wishing, in retrospect, that he had selected Jack Johnson instead.

In the second period of Thursday night's game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Ottawa Senators, Ryan's tough week continued. The Senators winger attempted to send a backhand pass through the neutral zone while breaking out of his own end when he was hit from behind by Jets defenseman Keaton Ellerby.

Ryan went headfirst into the boards, and his head appeared to connect with the stanchion along the Jets bench:

Ellerby was not assessed a penalty on the play. Meanwhile, Ryan left the game briefly and has since returned.
