Claude Giroux making good on playoff guarantee as point streak continues

After a seemingly disastrous 1-7-0 start to the season, during which star forward Claude Giroux went scoreless, the Philadelphia Flyers have posted a record of 17-9-4 and have climbed up into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

As such, the team has put itself in position to good on their captain's guarantee that they will indeed qualify for the post-season.

Key to that resurgence has been the play of Giroux himself, who heads into Monday's game against the Vancouver Canucks in the midst of a career-best eight-game point scoring streak, having registered five goals and ten assists in that span.

Overall, Giroux is rolling at an almost point-per-game pace, with ten goals and 25 assists in 35 games.

Whether Giroux helped kickstart the team or vice versa, he admitted it was all a matter of regaining confidence. "When you have a tough start, it's tough to get that confidence back," Giroux told Philly.com. "When the team starts winning, the confidence goes up." He added "slowly I'm starting to feel better, and the offense is there, and the team's winning, so if it keeps going like this, I think it's going to look real good for the future."

With his recent performance, Giroux has also re-entered the conversation for inclusion on Team Canada's roster for the Olympic Games in Sochi, and considering the way he's playing as the selection deadline approaches, it's hard to argue that he shouldn't be on that team.
