Alexander Steen out indefinitely with concussion

The St. Louis Blues have updated the status of injured forward Alexander Steen, who had previously been listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

As a result of being place on unjured reserve, Steen will be out of the lineup for a minimum of seven days, meaning he'll miss at least the next four games.

Steen ranks second in the league in goals with 24, and recently agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Blues.

St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen made his return to the St. Louis Blues' lineup in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks after missing 11 games due to a concussion. 

Steen saw over 20 minutes of ice time and registered four shots on goal, but took a second period penalty that led to the eventual game winning goal by Cam Fowler.

In regards to his performance, Steen wasn't overly impressed with his effort. “I didn’t think I played very well (Saturday), and I’m looking to play better next game,” Steen told the Post-Dispatch. “My conditioning and physically I was fine, I just didn’t play well."

Steen added "Everything, from my offensive game to my defensive game to how I normally play, I didn’t think I was even close."

Despite missing nearly a month of action, Steen ranks ninth in goals scored with 24, and will be looking to return to his erly season form on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings.

The St. Louis Blues will have their leading goal scorer back in the lineup for the first time in nearly a month.

Steen has been out since suffering a concussion on Dec. 21 against the Edmonton Oilers. 

Despite missing 11 games, he still leads the Blues with 24 goals in 35 games. He is second on the team in points with 38, behind T.J. Oshie's 40 in 46 games.

Alexander Steen appears close to returning to the St. Louis lineup after being out since Dec. 22 with a concussion. 

The Blues play next on Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes and Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings. The fact that Jaden Schwartz is still skating on the top line may signal that Steen may need a few more days before returning to game action.

Despite his absence, Steen remains tied for third in the NHL in goals with 24.

St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen remains sidelined with a concussion and is making slow progress towards a return. He skated both Friday and Saturday morning before the full team practice according to head coach Ken Hitchcock.

Hitchcock mentioned Steen will not be ready to return soon Saturday after practice. 

There continues to be no timetable put on Steen's return.

The Blues have been silent about the nature and extent of Steen's injury, but they will likely miss his goal-scoring abilities against the team they are chasing in the Central Division.
