No supplemental discipline for Capitals' Wilson for hit on Flyers' Schenn

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson will not be suspended for his hit on Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn on Tuesday night.

NHL senior vice-president and director of player safety Brendan Shanahan explained the reasoning behind the decision:

"With respect to boarding, although the end result is a violent collision with the boards, we have consistently applied the standard as outlined in the rulebook that we must determine whether the player receiving the check has turned his back just prior to, or simultaneous with, the check in a way that greatly contributes to the outcome."

Shanahan added that Schenn's awareness of the incoming hit from Wilson was a significant factor.

"The video evidence shows that having just looked at Wilson, Schenn begins to turn his back in an effort to avoid the contact, which actually contributes to making this hit worse," he explained.
