In the second period of Sunday evening's game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks, Oilers defenseman Corey Potter was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for this dangerous hit from behind on Ducks center Nick Bonino:

Bonino left the ice initially, but did return before the end of the period.

Potter has never faced supplementary discipline - be it a fine or a suspension - in his NHL career.

Oilers D Potter to have a hearing with the NHL Monday afternoon

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Corey Potter has been summoned to a phone hearing with NHL disciplinarians Monday afternoon, in response to shoving Anaheim Ducks center Nick Bonino face-first into the boards in the second period of Edmonton's 3-2 defeat Sunday night.

Potter received a match penalty for the incident.

This will mark Potter's first run-in with the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
