Scott Hartnell, author

Not only is Flyers left winger Scott Hartnell a professional hockey player, he's also a writer. His children's book, Hartnelldown, co-authored by his sister Kyle, will hit shelves Monday, writes the Courier-Post's Dave Isaac.

The book is a product of the Hartnelldown Foundation, which "provides support to charities that support hockey, children and communities around the US and Canada."

Hartnell's hoping the book, available for $19 through his website, will help the foundation raise some cash:

"We tinkered some words and some rhymes and had a lot of fun with it over the summer. It’s pretty cool. Not many people can say that they’ve been a part of writing a children’s book. Hopefully people here in Philly will embrace it and have fun with it. It’s kind of the story of my life but with all these rhymes to make it work."

Let's face it: what child wouldn't want to know the story of Scott Hartnell's life?

In all seriousness, it's great to see a guy like Hartnell giving back, and not taking himself too seriously. He's donated over $5,000 already this season, thanks to 105 tumbles, as Isaac writes:

"Hartnell falling down is still the crux of the operation. In addition to merchandise sales and donations, he ponies up $50 every time he falls down in a game. According to the foundation’s website, he’s donated $5,250 so far this season."

Keep on falling, Scotty.
