Panthers recall G Jacob Markstrom from San Antonio (AHL)

The Florida Panthers have recalled goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey Leauge, the team announced on Thursday evening.

Markstrom, a former second round pick of the Panthers, has had an inconsistent season. While the Swedish netminder has been excellent with the Rampage, he's struggled enormously in limited action with the Panthers.

In ten starts, Markstrom has posted a .924 save percentage in the American Hockey League this fall. In eight NHL starts this season, however, Markstrom has managed a .877 save-percentage and only one win.

Markstrom's recall comes on the heels of an apparent injury to Panthers starter Tim Thomas, who left a Panthers practice early on Thursday afternoon. Thomas' status hasn't been updated by the team yet, but Markstrom's recall would suggest that Thomas is unlikely to play Friday when the Panthers face the Washington Capitals.
