Jared Cowen suspended 2 games for hit on Zemgus Girgensons

Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen has been suspended two games for a hit on Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons Tuesday in Buffalo.

As explained in the video by Brendan Shanahan, Cowen delivered an illegal check to Girgenson's head; the fact that there was no injury suffered on the play was a factor in the decision, as was Cowen's clean record up to this point.

Cowen will miss games against the Buffalo Sabres and the Los Angeles Kings, and will be eligible to return Monday against the St. Louis Blues. He will also forfeit $31,794.88 in salary.
