NHL board of governors ratifies Rogers deal, provides salary cap estimate

Reports out of the NHL board of governors meeting in Florida suggest next season's salary cap should be around $71 million.

That figure is close to $7 million above this season's mark of $64.3 million, giving teams plenty of room to sign some of the bigger names heading for unrestricted free agency like Marian Gaborik, Thomas Vanek, Joe Thornton, Ryan Miller, Jaroslav Halak, Alexander Steen and Dion Phaneuf.

The board of governors also approved the $5.2-billion broadcast rights deal with Rogers, which will run until 2025-26.
