Martin Brodeur on his future in hockey: 'maybe I’ll play another year'
New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur isn't thinking about retirement and certainly isn't interested in treating each road game this season as some sort of farewell tour.
In fact, the 41-year old hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing at least one more season, according to Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger.
Right now it doesn't change the way I approach or feel about anything. I don’t feel like it’s going to be the last time I’ll be in certain places. I’m enjoying playing the game and coming to the rink. A lot. So it’s not in my mind that I might not come back.
Brodeur added “Maybe I’ll play another year. You never know."
So far this season, Brodeur has posted a record of 8-7-2 with a 2.29 goals against average and a .905 save percentage, and teammate and fellow 41-year old Jaromir Jagr believes Brodeur can keep it going for quite some time.
Hey, don’t count him out. Trust me. He can play another three or four years. Dominik Hasek came back when he was 47. (Brodeur) can play however long he wants to play. It’s up to him. He still loves the game, so it’s up to him.
One of the major storylines surrounding the Devils this season has been goaltender usage and a bubbling controversy involving Cory Schneider.
With Schneider acquired last summer with a view to the future and Brodeur under contract until the end of the 2013-14 season, it will be interesting to see how his contract situation with the team will play out if he does indeed decide to don the pads for one more season.
