As Wednesday's game between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings dragged into the eighth round of a shootout, head coach Todd McLellan did something he hadn't done since 2009: he called upon captain Joe Thornton.
And the man they call Jumbo made good on the attempt, scoring in the decisive skills competition for the first time since Dec. 16, 2007.
"Coach doesn't tend to look my way in a shootout, but it was nice to be involved in one," Thornton said.
Not bad for the man sitting second in the NHL in assists with 22.
