Orlov's agent: 'No chance in hell' Capitals defenseman re-signs with team

Once considered a promising blue-line prospect, Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov has fallen out of favour in Washington.

The Russian-born defender has bounced between the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League throughout this season, but despite five NHL recalls he has yet to appear in an NHL game with the Capitals this season. In 10 AHL games with the Hershey Bears, Orlov has recorded nine points.

On Wednesday night Orlov's agent Mark Gandler sounded off at length on Washington's handling of his client, and publicly requested a trade.

"Obviously, what Dmitry would like is to be traded because he has no future in Washington whatsoever, zero chance for him," he told CSNwashington.com's Chuck Gormley

He didn't stop there. Here are a few more of the best quotes:

  • "I think his value as a player is diminishing with every day and the team is losing valuable time and also ruining his career."

  • “It’s getting for him increasingly difficult to handle this, emotionally and also physically. He’s coming into Washington knowing he’s not going to get into the game no matter what. God forbid, this team would have to go down with the flu for Dmitry to get in – everyone."

  • "If he’s not an NHL player there’s no reason to marinate him in the minors. Let him go. The easier solution, and it’s a great solution for everybody, is for him to be traded. I’ve been in this business 25 years. I don’t think there is a problem finding a team that would like him.

  • "Seeing the situation, [Capitals GM] George [McPhee] needs to cut his losses and get the best deal he can. As you can imagine, there’s no chance in hell Dmitry is going to sign with the Capitals for next season."

Orlov is the second of two players current listed on the Capitals' active 23-man roster to request a trade out of Washington in the past week.
