VIDEO: Freshman goalie scores goal in first NCAA game
A goalie goal is special enough on its own. A goalie goal scored by a freshman playing his first collegiate start? That's something you never forget.
Cornell netminder Mitch Gillam saw an opportunity after Niagara emptied their net trailing by a goal late in the game. Gillam gloved a shot from the side boards and moved into a shooting position before firing the puck down the ice to cap his first NCAA victory in fine style.
If nothing else, Gillam confirmed one of the unwritten rules of hockey: goalie goals are the best empty-net goals. It will be tough for him to top that in his next start.
