Brodeur would consider waiving no trade to play with a contender

It's possible that we could see future-hall-of-fame goaltender Martin Brodeur patrolling the crease for a team outside of the Garden State.

In an interview with the New Jersey Star-Ledger, the 41-year-old netminder, who has all but lost his starting gig to the younger Cory Schneider, said that he'd consider waiving his no-trade clause in order to play for a contender.

“I hope it will never happen," Brodeur said Tuesday. "but if there is a situation that could be really fun for me and really good for the Devils, why not? It’s not like I’m going to play 25 more years here.”

“I’m not looking for that. I want to get back into the playoffs with this team and try to do something with this team. I would say 99 percent I’d say no right now. But for a little bit of time (in the spring)? Nobody is going to remember it, really. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal.”

Brodeur is playing in his final year of his current contract and didn't rule out an off-season return to New Jersey should he be shipped to a contender in 2013-14.

“There is no doubt about that. It’s not like a buyout. I could do whatever I want,” Brodeur said. “It’s not something everyone is thinking about right now, but it happens. Some of the best players in the league have moved around. Ray Bourque. You name it. A bunch of guys had success somewhere else.

“I know something might happen, but I doubt if Lou will ask me unless I ask him.”
