Devils place Ryane Clowe on injured reserve

The New Jersey Devils announced they have placed winger Ryane Clowe on injured reserve on Wednesday.

The roster move is retroactive to Oct. 13, meaning he will be eligible to return on Oct. 22. At the very least he will miss Thursday night's game against Ottawa and Saturday's home game against the New York Rangers.

Clowe's history of head injuries had led to the Devils being very cautious with the handling of his injury, which was sustained when he took an elbow to the head in the third period on Sunday against Winnipeg. He sustained three concussions last season with the San Jose Sharks.

Clowe joined the Devils after signing a five-year contract this off-season. He has one assist in six games this season.
