Report: Flyers trying to move a defenseman, sign Hal Gill

Sept 28, 1:13 PM

The Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly hoping to sign veteran Hal Gill, who has played for them this preseason on a professional tryout deal, but first they need to move a defenseman.

This report comes from CSN's Tim Panaccio:

If the "Flyers looking to move defenseman" rumblings strikes you as oddly familiar, perhaps it's because Colorado Avalanche beat writer Adrian Dater reported in the wee hours of Saturday morning that the defense-challenged Colorado Avalanche were "possibly talking" with the Flyers about a potential trade involving a blue-liner.

With the exception of the waiver wire and a minor trade involving Krys Barch, the rush to Monday (all teams may only have 23 player on the roster by Monday, and be cap compliant) has been pretty quiet so far.

Could that change over the balance of the weekend?

Flyers sign Hal Gill to one-year deal

Oct 1, 10:39 AM

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Hal Gill to a one-year deal.

The 38-year old was invited to training camp on a professional tryout offer, appearing in three preseason games while registering two assists and an even rating.

Gill now joins a list of nine other defenseman (including injured Chris Pronger) under contract for the upcoming season.

Expect a follow-up move from the Flyers in order to make room for Gill.
