Kyle Wellwood signs one-month deal in Switzerland

Kyle Wellwood has signed a one-month contract with EV Zug, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.

Unable to secure a pro tryout offer, the 30-year old forward appears to be looking to do some auditioning overseas, hoping to catch the eye of an NHL club.

Wellwood scored six goals and nine assists in 39 games for the Winnipeg Jets last season, after putting up career highs in goals (18) and assists (29) during the 2011-12 NHL season.

Kyle Wellwood announces retirement from professional hockey

Kyle Wellwood has announced his retirement from professional hockey, according to a report out of Switzerland.

The 30-tear old was drafted in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and scored 92 goals and 143 assists in 489 career NHL games.

Wellwood has most recently been playing in Switzerland, registering one goal and two assists in nine games for EV Zug.
