Sabres, Hodgson 'working hard' on new contract

by Sep 11, 12:24 PM

The Buffalo Sabres opened training camp on Wednesday facing a myriad of questions about the future of the franchise. Absent from the proceedings was young centerman Cody Hodgson, who remains without a contract.

"We continue to work on his contract," Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier told John Vogl of the Buffalo News on Wednesday, "Both sides are working hard on this."

Regier also said that he'd spoken with Hodgson and his agent Rich Winter on "a couple of occasions" Wednesday morning. "The efforts that are being made by both sides would indicate that we want to get something done as quickly as possible. We’re going to make every attempt to get him on the ice tomorrow."

The Sabres general manager also addressed the future of star winger Thomas Vanek and starting goaltender Ryan Miller, both of whom are expected to be traded before their contracts expire following this season.

"(the trade window) is closed right now," said Regier while explaining why all is quiet on the Vanek/Miller trade front at the moment.
