Don Maloney "not happy" about Ekman-Larsson's visa issues

Sep 11, 6:42 PM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson will miss the first few days of Phoenix Coyotes training camp due to visa issues, and general manager Don Maloney is not impressed, according to NHL.com.

I'm not happy about it. It's something that players are required to take care of and (his actions) shows a lack of getting after it. He's always in great shape and he's an important guy. But we have 57 players here and we're supposed to have 58 and there's no excuse for it.

Ekman-Larsson signed a six-year, $33 million extension back in March, and may need some spare change in order to pay a possible fine levied by the team.

Immigration issue causes Ekman-Larsson to miss opening of camp

Sep 11, 2:20 PM

Slick, tough minutes defenseman and underwear mogul Oliver Ekman-Larsson skipped the first day of Phoenix Coyotes training camp on Wednesday.

Unlike most players who were absent from the opening of team training camps across the league on Wednesday, Ekman-Larsson's issue has nothing to do with contract negotiations however.

It does have something to do with paper work though. Reportedly Ekman-Larsson is trapped in visa related limbo:

The Coyotes will kick-off their preseason schedule with a couple of split-squad games against the Los Angeles Kings this Sunday.
