NHL Game Summary - Winnipeg at San Jose

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Pavelski potted the game's only goal and Alex Stalock stopped 20 shots for his second consecutive shutout, as the San Jose Sharks claimed a 1-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday at SAP Center.

Pavelski broke the scoreless deadlock 6:48 into the third period, while Stalock stood tall between the pipes to help the Sharks secure their fifth straight victory.

The setback was the first for Winnipeg under interim head coach Paul Maurice, who led the Jets to a season-high tying four straight wins after replacing Claude Noel on Jan. 12.

Ondrej Pavelec played well in defeat, turning aside 31-of-32 shots.

Pavelski appeared to put the Sharks on top with a power-play marker late in the second stanza, but teammate Joe Thornton was whistled for goaltender interference on the play and the goal was immediately waived off.

However, Pavelski pushed on and gave Stalock the only support he would need early in the third after Justin Braun intercepted a botched clearing attempt from the Jets near the right point.

Braun then worked his way into the slot before backhanding a shot that Pavelec fought off, but Pavelski was there on the low right side and swatted the puck out of midair and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 6:48.

Stalock took it from there, as the 26-year-old netminder turned away all comers down the stretch to secure his second career shutout.
