NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Carolina

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Malhotra scored the game winner at 2:40 of overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied for a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at PNC Arena.

After Jordan Staal had tied the game with 52.3 seconds to play in regulation, the Hurricanes took the win in overtime thanks to a turnover by Flyers defenseman Mark Streit.

Streit tried to carry the puck into the Hurricanes end through the middle, but was knocked off the puck.

Ron Hainsey grabbed the disc in his own end and fired it up the middle to Malhotra, who was behind the defense and went to the backhand before snapping it past Steve Mason for the win.

Justin Peters finished the game with 28 stops for the Hurricanes, who had lost five straight coming into the game.

Scott Hartnell scored and Mason made 36 stops for the Flyers, who have lost three of four.

The game stayed scoreless until late in the third period, when the Flyers went on top via the power play. Kimmo Timonen fired a slap shot on net from the left point that was redirected down to the ice by Hartnell for his first goal of the year, which came with 3:58 to play.

It didn't hold up, though, as the Hurricanes pulled Peters for the extra attacker and the move paid off. Eric Staal snapped a pass from the right side of the net to the left side, where Jordan Staal one-timed the puck in off the glove of Mason with 52.3 seconds left on the clock.
