Denver students warned about skipping school to attend Broncos' parade

Cary Edmondson / USA TODAY Sports

Tuesday will be a great day to play hooky if you're living in the Denver area.

The city is hosting a parade for the Super Bowl champion Broncos, after the club captured its third title in franchise history Sunday.

Although it's a cause for celebration, the entire city won't be shutting down, and Denver Public Schools released a statement informing parents that their children will require an excused absence if they wish to attend the parade.

Denver Public Schools (DPS) congratulates the Denver Broncos on their win in Super Bowl 50, and joins in the excitement many of students, families and educators feel about the team’s victory.

DPS will be having school as planned on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, and encourage students and staff to show their support by wearing Broncos orange or blue, as permitted by school dress codes.

Denver's World Champions exemplified DPS Shared Core Values of accountability, collaboration and fun this season, and DPS leaders believe a great way to honor the Broncos’ victory is by showing those values in school.

However, if families want their children to participate in the celebration in downtown Denver, please contact your child’s school and let school leaders know you are seeking an excused absence. DPS leaders are recommending that principals, who know their families best, grant these requests.

A day spent celebrating the city's heroes easily trumps another mundane math class, right?
