Super Bowl ads aren't cheap.

A 30-second ad cost $42,000 during the first Super Bowl in 1967. This year, CBS is charging a record $5 million for 30 seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl 50 broadcast.

Ticket prices have also soared in recent years: The average cost of a Super Bowl 50 ticket on StubHub is $5,422, which is $1,200 more than last year's big game and $2,898 more than Super Bowl XLVII.
