St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey is in critical, but stable condition, the team confirmed, after the 25-year-old was reportedly shot twice in the head Tuesday evening, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening," the Rams said in a statement. "We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

Citing a Rams source, news of Bailey being shot was first reported by NFL Media's Michael Silver.

According to Rapoport, Bailey, who was sitting in a car with two young relatives and a cousin at the time of the shooting, will undergo surgery on Wednesday. His cousin, who was sitting in the driver's seat, is reportedly in life-threatening condition.

Bailey is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The 25-year-old has caught 12 passes for 182 yards in eight games this season, including one touchdown reception.
