Report: Giants 'cautiously optimistic' Pierre-Paul can return for final 4 games

The New York Giants haven't ruled out the possibility of defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul returning at some point this season, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday.

The team remains "cautiously optimistic" that Pierre-Paul, who suffered severe injuries to his right hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident, can return for at least the final four games of the season.

"If he gets back for four games, that would be good," a source familiar with the team's situation told Glauber. "If it's more, that would be a bonus."

However, the source added the Giants are also being realistic about the situation, and understand a return may not happen this season if Pierre-Paul doesn't progress they way they're hoping he will.

Pierre-Paul underwent a physical with Giants doctors Sept. 7 and has been rehabbing away from the team since.

The 26-year-old has until Nov. 17 to sign his $14.8-million franchise tender and be eligible to play this season.
