Ryan Mallett set his alarm for Friday morning and made it to work on time.

A day after the Houston Texans quarterback missed practice for what head coach Bill O'Brien initially called a personal issue and was later revealed to be oversleeping, Mallett was back on the field.

Mallett operated as the Texans' third quarterback behind starter Brian Hoyer and second-year player Tom Savage on Friday, suggesting he's being punished by the coaching staff.

The timing of Mallett's absence Thursday raised more than a few eyebrows. Only days prior, Hoyer was declared the Texans' starting quarterback after besting Mallett in a training-camp battle.
