LaDainian Tomlinson thinks Philip Rivers has lost confidence in Chargers

Few people know Philip Rivers better than LaDainian Tomlinson.

The pair played together for six seasons and with reports swirling about Rivers' future with the team, Tomlinson weighed in on matters Monday night on NFL Network

It was not a good prognosis if you're a Chargers fan.

"You never want to trade your franchise quarterback," Tomlinson said. "You know that's never the case. However, in this situation, they might have no choice but to do so. Because I don't know if Philip (Rivers) wants to be there anymore. I think he has lost confidence in the organization. He's seen a lot of changes going on and the L.A. thing is valid. Him not wanting to go to L.A. is very valid."

It's a very real possibility that the Chargers could be Los Angeles bound in 2016, and reports have indicated Rivers may not sign an extension with the organization if that's the case.

Tomlinson thinks Rivers may also not be happy with the constant changing of personnel around him.

"The parts around him keep on moving. The receiver corps keeps on changing. Eddie Royal is now gone," Tomlinson noted. "We talked about this before with Vincent Jackson leaving years ago. There are so many parts that are leaving."

"Now to that point, Antonio Gates next year is a free agent, Eric Weddle is gonna be up. Next year the Chargers have a lot of decisions to make with a lot of key guys. So Philip could be looking at the situation and thinking 'we're not close to winning a championship anytime soon.'"

The Chargers recently held a workout with Marcus Mariota, causing some to ponder whether San Diego was interested in shipping Rivers to the Tennessee Titans as part of a package to move up in the draft.

Teams just don't up and trade franchise quarterbacks everyday, but if Rivers is intent on not signing a new deal, the Chargers may have little choice but to try to get some value for him.
