The Carolina Panthers signed wide receiver Jarrett Boykin to a one-year contract on Friday.

The former Charlotte high school star is coming home after spending the first three years of his career buried on the depth chart of the Green Bay Packers.

"It means a lot being from the area and having the opportunity to come back and get a chance to play for the Panthers," Boykin told the Panthers official website. "But at the end of the day, it still boils down to how I go about my business on the field. I have to prove myself all over again."

In his best season with the Packers, Boykin started eight games in 2013, catching 49 passes for 681 yards and three touchdowns.

In 2014, Boykin only caught three passes, playing in 13 games almost exclusively on special teams.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity the Panthers are giving me. I'm going to come in here and bust my tail," Boykin said. "I'm trying to re-establish my identity and get back to being the player I know I can be."
