Josh McCown wants to mentor Johnny Manziel

Josh McCown may be a temporary solution for the Cleveland Browns, but his presence may pay dividends for the club in the future.

Cleveland signed McCown to a three-year contract worth $14 million and the veteran will challenge for the team's starting quarterback position.

The Browns selected Johnny Manziel with a first-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, but the former Heisman Trophy winner underwent a disastrous first professional campaign and checked into rehab after the season ended for an undisclosed issue.

McCown spoke about how he wanted to help Manziel in an interview Friday.

"Johnny is a person, and every person that I come across has value to me, and they matter," McCown said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports. "And so I want to help him as much as I can with all parts of it.  To grow as a person and as a player and to help him go on and have a fruitful career."

The 35-year-old McCown has a wealth of experience, with the Browns being the ninth stop on his journeyman career.

McCown spoke about how he strives to improve the entire Browns quarterback group.

"If you can give of yourself to others to help somebody else in your journey, I think you’ll find so much more peace in life," McCown said. "And so that's my approach when I head into a quarterback room, and is just, 'What can I give back to the guys around me to help us be better?'"

With the Browns undergoing a turbulent offseason, McCown's comments will be welcome to an organization that desperately needs some semblance of stability.
