2007 - Sean Taylor dies after being shot at home

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor passes away at the age of 24 after being shot during a home invasion.

Richard Sharpstein, a family friend, says Taylor and his girlfriend were at their home in Miami when they were awoken by loud noises. The intruder then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots in the direction of the couple, one missing and the other hitting Taylor in the leg, damaging his femoral artery.

Taylor is airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital after the attack, but never regains consciousness.

"We're going to miss him," Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs says during a press conference. "I'm not talking about as a player. I'm talking about as a person."
