Rams' Barron thought Buccaneers' defense was too passive

Newly-minted St. Louis Rams safety Mark Barron is relishing his new opportunity to be aggressive.

The former seventh overall pick never really fit into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive scheme, so when the team dealt him to the St. Louis Rams at the trade deadline in exchange for a pair of draft picks, Barron was happy to go to a club that would appreciate his more aggressive style.

“Yeah, it is passive,” Barron told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas of Buccaneers' coach Lovie Smith's Cover 2-based scheme. “That’s kind of the only thing I didn’t like about it a lot of times. I had to sit back and I couldn’t really be as aggressive as I wanted to in that system.”

At this point, Barron's role in the Rams' defense is unclear, but head coach Jeff Fisher is sure that his team acquired a quality player.

“I’m not going to speculate the roles and things like that,” Fisher said. “We got a good player. I’m gonna spend some time with him and talk about where and how he fits at some other point.”
