Bears gain share of NFC North lead with win over Jets

Jay Cutler led the Chicago Bears to a 27-19 victory over the New York Jets, going 23/38 for 225 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. With the victory, the Bears are tied for the NFC North lead with the Detroit Lions.

Bears tight end Martellus Bennett caught two touchdown passes, as his torrid start to the season continued.

Here's what you need to know : 

  • Jay Cutler was the Bears leading rusher at half time. Yes, seriously.
  • Alshon Jeffery was outstanding for the Bears, catching eight passes for 105 yards. 
  • Martellus Bennett caught a touchdown pass for the third consecutive game, and is now tied for second for the league lead in touchdowns, alongside Bears teammate Brandon Marshall. The Bears tight end had five catches for 53 yards.
  • Geno Smith threw a pick-six to Bears safety Ryan Mundy on the second play from scrimmage.
  • On the next drive, the Jets forced the Bears to punt, but Jets punt returner Jalen Saunders fumbled on the return. The Bears used great field position to their advantage, and Bennett scored his first of two touchdowns.
  • Marshall left the game midway through the second quarter, but returned after half time. The Bears star was largely ineffective, catching one pass for six yards.
  • Jets receiver Eric Decker left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return. Decker was considered a game-time decision.
  • Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson left the game late in the fourth quarter and did not return.
