Report: 49ers, Kaepernick suspend contract talks while police investigate Miami incident

The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick will wait until police complete their investigation into a "suspicious incident" involving Kaepernick (that saw a woman wake up in the hospital) before continuing their discussions about a contract extension for Kaepernick.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed on "NFL Total Access" on Thursday, via NFL.com's Dan Handzus, that the two parties have suspended all contract talks effective immediately.

The decision isn't a surprising one. Though both the 49ers and Kaepernick have expressed a desire to reach a deal before the start of the regular season, there is no looming deadline for the two sides to agree to terms on an extension. Kaepernick won't be a free agent until 2015 at the earliest.

Kaepernick is reportedly seeking a deal worth $18 million per season. Depending on the outcome of the police investigation in Miami, the 49ers may not feel comfortable offering anywhere close to that much money.
