5 players in green room go undrafted on day 1

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of the NFL draft has come and gone, and unfortunately for five players invited to the green room, their names went uncalled.

The NFL invites a number of players likely to be taken in the opening 32 picks of the draft each year, which can lead to a few sitting for over three hours hoping to hear their name announced.

Here's the five that were left waiting in the green room for the entire first round:

Player Position School Ranking*
Cam Robinson OT Alabama 16th
Kevin King CB Washington 34th
Chidobe Awuzie CB Colorado 40th
DeShone Kizer QB Notre Dame 58th
Malik McDowell DT Michigan State 66th

*Rankings listed are those in NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock's top 100

Robinson and Kizer are certainly the most surprising of the quintet, as many mock drafts had both players being selected in the opening round. Robinson was Mayock's 16th-ranked overall player while Kizer was expected to be taken by a quarterback-needy team.

With the Green Bay Packers holding the first selection in the second round, it wouldn't be surprising to see either King or Awuzie be the first name called Friday. The Packers pass defense finished second-last in the league and could use a shutdown corner heading into next season.
