Carroll won't rule out Browner's return

The Seattle Seahawks brought back one of the original members of the Legion of Boom only to say goodbye again this week, but head coach Pete Carroll isn't giving up on Brandon Browner.

The Seahawks waived the lengthy defensive back Monday after attempting to move him from cornerback to safety. Carroll says that the team didn't have enough time to comfortably make the transition, but they would consider revisiting the project down the road.

"We just felt like we ran out of time getting him ready to play safety," Carroll said, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. "The specialty stuff he can do and there was no question about that. But to fit on the roster and all that I thought it was going to be a race for him to make it. He could play for us, which he did in games. But I think there was still a ways to go and I thought in respect to him, give him more time to find a place with somebody else.

"There are many scenarios where we would ask him to come back, so we left with that exchange. I love that guy and his competitiveness and toughness and all of that. But it was a big request. We weren’t making him play safety and faking it, we needed him to play to be on the roster and help us, and the other guys were just ahead of him."

Browner's days at cornerback are likely over after an embarrassing performance in 2015 with the New Orleans Saints. The team gave up the most passing touchdowns in NFL history - the bulk of them given up by Browner - and the 32-year-old led the league in penalties.

Browner played three seasons with the Seahawks between 2011 and 2013, winning a Super Bowl in his final season with the team.
