Report: NFL to announce Philadelphia as 2017 draft host

The NFL draft is once again on the move.

After two years hosting the annual event in Chicago, the NFL is set to announce Philadelphia as the host city for the 2017 draft, a source told Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.

Philadelphia has long been rumored as the most likely destination for next spring, but the only confirmation to this point had come from Pennsylvania Rep. Bob Brady.

With the league seemingly waiting until the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week, an official announcement is reportedly expected in early August.

The NFL draft had been held in New York for 50 years before moving to Chicago for the first time in 2015.

Philadelphia won out over a number of other cities interested in taking a turn as host, but local fans will have an extended wait before their team first makes a pick. The blockbuster trade to move up and select Carson Wentz in the 2016 draft leaves the Eagles without a first-round pick next spring.
