Brees: No contract talks with Saints since March

It appears likely Drew Brees will enter the 2016 season without a new contract in hand.

The New Orleans Saints' veteran quarterback told ESPN's Mike Triplett on Saturday that contract extension talks have completely stalled.

"Not sure why things have not progressed," said Brees. "They made an offer in March, we made an offer shortly thereafter. And besides the Josh Norman deal (when the Saints approached Brees about restructuring his contract to try to fit the star cornerback under their salary cap), there has been no talk about a contract since."

Brees, 37, is set to cost the Saints $30 million against the salary cap in the final year of his contract.

Brees indicated an extension, which would mitigate his cap hit, is still possible and may be most likely to come late this summer.

"I would say the deadline is the start of the regular season, not training camp," Brees said.
