The San Francisco 49ers exercised their fifth-year option on safety Eric Reid's contract, meaning he's now signed through the 2017 season, the team announced Monday.

Reid is now scheduled to make just over $5.67 million under the option.

The 24-year-old has started 47 of 48 regular-season games over the past three seasons, registering 189 total tackles, 25 passes defensed, and seven interceptions.

Despite his play dipping in 2015, as he failed to snag a interception, Reid is one of the 49ers' best young defensive players.
